Coach Penny believes that swimming is a life-long sport! At a young age in Coral Gables, Florida, Penny got her start in swimming at the Venetian Pool. First she took Red Cross swim lessons, and then taught swim lessons through Venetian Aquatic Club. At that time in her life, swimming was more of a social event than a competition! Penny's coaching experiences include 3 years as a USA coach, ASCA level 1, and 3 years as a High School Varsity coach. Penny is also a certified NFHS, COSA, and USA swimming official. Penny divides the rest of her time away from the pool between her 4 daughters and is employed full-time as a School Nurse.
Coach Andy started coaching with ROCKFISH Swimming in the summer of 2015.
Coach Susan is excited to join ROCKFISH Swimming this season after spending 14 years coaching with CBAC. Susan also works for SMCPS with the Partners for Success Resource Center where she assists families who have a child receiving special education services navigate the school system and resources available in the community.
Coach Susan is married to Dan Shannon and they have two children, Melanie and Brad. Melanie is a client at The Center for Life Enrichment (and volunteers all around the county!). Brad is a student athlete at The Ohio State University where he is on the swim team. Brad competed in the 2016 US Olympic Trials in the 100 Back!
Coach Holly grew up swimming with a YMCA swim team in Massachusetts and continued to swim in high school and in college (Clark University, NCAA division 3). The pool has always been her home away from home; some days spent jumping from practice to teaching swim lessons and then lifeguarding. She continued to keep swimming in her life after college by coaching the same youth and high school teams she grew up with. It is an amazing experience to share and teach others about this sport that has been such an impact on her life.
When Coach Holly moved to Southern Maryland with her husband, she knew the pool was her first stop.
